For many centuries, turks have a tradition of decorating homes or mosques with tiles . In Ottoman times there were two major factories of ceramics in Kutahya and Iznik (Nicea). At that time they were all handpainted but today most found on the market are mass production. Even so you can still find hand-painted ceramics with higher prices.
